1992 Bronco 5.0, 106,000 miles cranks 8-10 times before starting only when hot. Starts immediately when cold. Have at Ford dealer now. Already has major tune up, fuel system checked, EGR, EPV replaced and all codes eliminated. Ran great even before the work just performed. Ford techs running out of ideas and I am running out of money. Any ideas?
The reason I ask is that I've known people who've had starting issues linked to overheated wires.
Not the exact situation your having. These were no-start when hot in old pontiacs.
The wires would get hot, and would not carry enough juice to work the starter.
In your case, the starter is working, but the initial juice to the coil is coming from the battery. After it starts it's coming from the alternator (I think).
Mine starts up right away when cold. And it cranks real slow then starts when warm. I havn't given it much though because it does always start even if it sounds bad for a second or two.
Hi, check your fuel lines. They could be getting hot, especially the lines at the back of the block. Someone could have pushed them against the block.
You also might have a bad fuel pump. Runs ok cold, but gets sick hot.

Monitor your fuel pressure when you shut down. If fuel pressure drops quickly, then fuel is going either past the fuel regulator or into the engine through leaky injectors. This excess fuel will cause hard starting.
After sitting for a few hours, the fuel will evaporate and starting will be OK.
i know the problem. maybe. I had the same problem and all the so called mechanics couldnt figure it out. your fuel may be boiling , if its a carb, mine was , i had to get a spacer for the carb.
Have you checked your timing? My bronco was hard to start warm, easy when cold. The timing was off just about 4 degrees off. I adjusted it and it starts up perfect every time now. Good luck.
