Hello! Does anyone know if the engine mount towers for 351M are the same as 351W in a 73-79 F100? I'm not positive but I'm thinking the blocks were the same but the M had longer stroke, on the other hand it may be a modified clevland ???? Just don't know???
Well I just realized (with some help from my ford book) that a 351M is a modified cleveland but still don't know if the mount towers are interchangable ???? The reason I ask is sometime over the upcoming winter I'm going to rebuild a '69 351w I picked up and I'd like to put it in my '79 F100 which currently has a 300 L6. I know the 300 mount towers won't work so my search for proper mount towers is on, any help greatly appreciated! Thanks
You should have no trouble finding frame mount brackets. You should be able to use brackets for a 302 or a 351W, both of which are common. Also, I'd bet that the brackets for a 351M and 400 are the same.
Note that the 351W is just a tall deck 302. And the 351M/400 are almost just tall deck 351C's. And finally, the 351C/351M/400 are just reworked 302/351W's - heads from one will bolt to the other, although a cooling passage won't line up properly.
first off , is this truck 4x4. if so then your gonna need someone to fab up a pair. that motor was never offered in a 4x4 from those years . and yes the blocks are different. I went this route a couple of years back because i wanted a 351w in my 73 highboy. now you can use 300-6 mount towers, cut them half way down from the top and then weld a plate that runs about 3-4 inches back. or try and drill different holes in the frame to bolt the towers on. im sure it can be done but at 16 i didnt have the funds to get somthing fabbed up .
