Backup sensor question

Hello,
I have an 02 Excursion and need to replace a backup sensor. *The stock one is 1L1Z15K859AA and is about $100. *I see there's a variant one 3F2Z15K859BA that fits 02-06 F250/350's, E250/350's, Exp's and such for $18. *Anyone know whether this lower cost one could be made to work on an Ex? Tempting...

I would bet the connection is different as well as the mounting.

I bought 2 of these on ebay - $30. Snipped off a small plastic key on the truck connector . After that, fit and worked just fine. Will report back if any problems.

I had the "off" light coming on every time I put the trans into reverse, so on advice from this group I tried listening to the sensors with the key on and truck in reverse. One was clicking away nicely, two were either clicking intermittently or very slowly (I tried this a couple times) and one was silent.

I bought a 4-pack of 4F23-15K859-AA / 3F2Z-15K859-BA sensors for $49 delivered (from NWMALL on ebay) and spent about 6 minutes replacing them - now I get the "beep... beep... beep ,beep, beep beepbeepbeep" when backing up to a post near the driveway.

If anybody wants the sensors (free) I took out (I think only 1 or 2 are good) you could swap them in until you find the good one(s) and save $50.

I personally didn't want to replace one and then be back under there in a month doing another one and then in the middle of winter again so I just did all four at once.

I've got all of them in my garage if you want them they are still attached to the bumper they are used. Sell'em CHEAP if interested PM me. One is bad not sure which one but they would have to be sold as a set as I don't know which one is bad. But my light was steady on in the dash before I replaced my bumper. Come to think of it I believe its the one closest to the driver side (aka LS). You or someone else could use them more than me they are just sitting there collecting metal dust. love me some grinding with sparks a flying!

I used the advice from this forum, found out which sensor was bad on my 2003 X and replaced it with this...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121349191762?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Works perfect for only $15...

Did the connector match or did you have to splice the wires?

Matched perfect... whole process took about 10 min... 9 of which was spent trying to remove the old sensor... it was stuck and I didn't want to break the housing, so I tried a bunch of things before I realized it was just stuck due to sand and "gunk"... now that I know how to do it, future replacements will take about 2 minutes...

Is it any "better" than the OEM ones we have? IE. has the technology gone any farther. I know it's not going to make it to where I can back up 9 miles an hour faster but mine seem to be sooooper sensitive. Maybe I should just clean them, Windex maybe?

Mine didn't work before either, so no help there... but with the key on (engine off) and the trans in reverse and the rear hatch open (or not) you can walk around behind the truck and test how they react.

it seems like mine start to beep about 3' out and then increase at about 2' and then scream at maybe 1' or so; which puts the trailer ball about 3" away from whatever is behind me?

Hey guys, looks like it is my turn to replace a sensor. However, the part numbers referenced here are for 2003 model years and later.

I found on the ford parts site diagram, the sensor for 2002 is 15K859, but when I look for it on Ebay, it says it is for 2003 and newer years.

Any idea if 02 is the same or not?

Found an other Ford site that shows the full part number. It says that part number 1L1Z-15K859-AA is same if I chose 2002, 2003 or 2005 model years.
Not sure what the prefix 4 digits mean? But so far is seems that this is the same part for all of the excursions. Just not sure why the 4F23-15K859-AA / 3F2Z-15K859-BA parts are different when trying to list for the 2002 year.

Anyone know?

When looking up in Ebay, I find that the 2002 model part number is very pricey compared to those listed under the 4F23 or 3F2Z prefix part numbers.

2001-2005 all take the 1L1Z-15K859-AA. The 3F2Z-15k859-BA fit just about every other vehicle except the Excursion.
