The only trucks I have been able to put the shroud on without removing the fan are chevys they have two piece shrouds. I've never messed with the 4.9 trucks but my experience with Ford is the fan has to come out.
Why not remove the fan? Does the 300 have that stupid threaded fan hub instead of 4 bolts?
If so, just leave the belt on and put the wrench to it. Get a BFH (preferably a deadblow) and smack the wrench handle. It'll unscrew that easily unless it's rusted real bad. Oh and make sure you check right or left hand thread on that first.
