Ok so iam running down the road when my engine goes into this phase of quiting and then going, continuously. It only quits for a second or so then runs fine a couple seconds then the same, over and over. Just as if somebody is messing with my ignition switch. 95 f350 7.3ps. CPS???
Being you are getting the P0344 code I'd say it's time for a different CPS. Use a motorcraft or International one, as parts house ones seem to work intermitantly. If you have the back pressure valve unplugged, that is where that code comes from. The others I'm not familular with.
it will run ok cold for about 2 minutes, then it starts acting up.
plugged in my code reader and ran the tests. alot came up
Koeo test
-P0476 exhaust pressure control valve
-P1219 (CID) low
P1273 cylinder #3 high to low side open
Koer test
-P0344 CPS A circiut intermittent (guilty one?)
-P0221 throttle pedal switch B range performance
-and the P0476 came up here again
any help appreciated!
You have many issues that need to be addressed ...
1. -P0476, you can ignore this one for now as it won't affect anything.
2. -P1219, PCM detected a short (ground) on the CI line.
This line is used by the PCM to inform the IDM where cylinders 1 & 4 are in the rotation of the engine. Could be a bad IDM, connection or wiring harness
3. -P1273, bad connection or probably melted wiring harnesses at under valve connection points, cylinder #3.
4. -P0221, PCM detected TPS (throttle position sensor) out of range.
This is reported by the PCM if the low range (foot off the peddle) or high range (foot flooring the peddle) and the detected voltage is out of spec. This will also occur if someone modified or replaced the TPS with an aftermarket sensor as most are not compatible, such as Dorman. Or it could just be the TPS is defective, as it's just a variable resistor.
Everything almost looks (sounds like from your description) as bad connections everywhere. Do you have a little history on the truck such as how long you've owned it and past issues.
Not much history on the truck, bought it at an auction sale.....it came out of an oilfield town so iam assuming it has ALOT of odle hours on it, as most trucks diesels do around here in the winter.
Iam gonna start with the CPS and go from there. I can't afford to bring the truck to the shop right now.
I really appreciate the help from u guys on here!
The wiring looks pretty rough on this unit. Looks like it has had many different occupations in its lifetime. A lot of do it yourself wire "tap in's" have been done.
I'd start with what Jim is talking about, especially after what you say. I'd clean up the wiring as good as you can, eliminate any unnecessary add-ons, clean the connections mentioned, and make sure your grounds are good (something I like to do anymore anytime I work on wiring).
