Making a list

I have decided , I need to make a list of things I have already bought for my project . As I go along on this build , I think of things I will need , and try to order or buy them so they will be ready when the time comes to use them . My problem is , I forget that I have already bought some things , and then order the same things over . Last fall I spent a lot of money at the turkey run , and came home and put the stuff in storage . Now as I need different parts I opened the boxes' and found parts I have already bought and used . I will have to make a list and someone will get a good deal . Is this just me or do you find yourself doing the same thing ?

No, I buy things because, "I may need this and you don't know when you will see one again."

It's all part of the CRS syndrome Smitty. Just don't forget where you put the list (or the parts.)

My problem is finding something that I know I have (new/used part, tool, etc) that isn't where I recall putting it. Drives me crazy. Once I buy a replacement I find the original. Stu

Glad I'm not the only one with that problem, Stu. Maybe that's how I ended up with so many duplicates.

You may have to start building another truck.

I've been guilty of it, just saying. I've also bought parts only to find that I need to make changes further down the road. Will eventually put them all together and see just what I have, lol

I can begin to build another truck from some of the parts I bought twice.

The most recent example? The hexagon hood bolts. I went to install the hood and couldn't find the bolts anywhere. I KNEW I put them in a ziplock bag carefully identified with the contents. Poof - they vanished.
So after cursing like a pirate that stubbed his toe, I ordered another set and paid more stupid shipping for them.
Yesterday I found the original set. Right in the middle on the workbench in the carefully labeled bag - plain as day. How I missed it I'll never know. I'll put them in the overflowing box of new parts called 'extras'.

I'm gonna have a heck of a parts sale when I get this truck finished.

Shame, shame, shame.... delete the columns with the cost in it, you'll sleep better. I was keeping track when I'd had my truck about a year, and it "proved" I would be done at about $5k...

Haha yeah i know. I always seem to find things to add to the list and very rarely take things off the list that i decide i dont need. It does help me plan out when i want to do things though.

When we couldn't find something at home and it was right where we had looked before, my Dad would say in his PA Dutch accent, "So you don't believe in spooks!"

Definitely have the same problem, I just recently found a set of pins and bushings for my front spring hangers, I thought I installed them over 10 years ago, now I have to re visit that task to see exactly what I did replace up there (it was one of the first jobs I ever did on my truck). I've got a lot of duplicate parts and with the cost of things going up all the time I'm glad, besides if I get a feeling to go out and work on it, I already have enough parts to do several prodjects. I'm bad, if I find a few $s on a credit card, I look for something I just cant live without and then hide it for awhile. LOL You cant have to many parts for your truck. I've got a cardboard box full of receipts about 8inches deep. By the way, am I the only one that lays on a creeper and wipes down the underside of there truck, and enjoys it?

When I worked for a Ford dealership in the 70's I bought a lot of stuff for my 54. Now if I can find them... they are some where in the 1500 sq ft garage...or maybe in the attic...
