That crossed my mind too as seeming like not enough was missing. I blew a hpop line while in 120 race tune at 100+ mph..... 
I lost at least 10 quarts or so.
Keep an eye on it like pikachu said you may be having problems somewhere else and this put a bandage on it for now

I had the exact same problem and after filling it up and cranking and getting the air out of the system it fixed the problem... I was also about 1.5 gallon low in oil.. I never have had any more problems.... Just check the oil more often... Glad to hear you got it figured out.

My front oil cooler seal had been leaking for a while just didnt realize how much.
