Do i have a 292?
Do i have a 292?
If you've found #1 cyl. on the dist. cap, great...now, all you'll need to do is to take the dist. cap off and have someone bump the starter so you know which direction the rotor rotates in. The next cylinder in the firing order would correspond to the next distributor cap post in the direction of travel of the rotor and the rest of the ignition wire locations for a given cylinder would be in the order as listed on the intake manifold.

One thing yet to be established is if it is a 292 or 332 style engine.
They look a lot alike. How about giving the part # that is on the intake? It will be a 3 letter or letter/number combo followed by 4 numbers.
And YES, the 332 has the valve covers held on by 2 nuts, just like the 292.
The distributor runs CCW in both and have the same 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 firing order.
The cylinders are 1 to 4 on the passenger side, front to back and 5 to 8 on the drivers side on both.

thanks for everyones help. I gave up though, it needs a new distributor or somthing, but it will just be too unpractical of a truck to have. And the engine isnt worth very much anyways so im not going to mess with it.

A 292 exhaust manifold has a different bolt pattern than the 332. the 292 pattern is a straight horizontal line and the 332 bolt pattern is a up and down like a www not ----- the 332 also has the 2 stud valve cover bolts so dont go by that.

Hey Superbee, you still have that motor? If you can find a casting number on the intake I might be interested in buying it.
Thanks,
Jay
Sure, you will probably have to take the whole truck tho
If your still interested tell me a price, (ill sell it real cheap) Im not sure when i can check the casting number but ill let you know when i do.

Phew...a little far for me to travel to give it a look see (I live in Connecticut right now). so I probably am gonna have to pass on it. But, if you decide to part it out on e-bay or whatever just let me know. I'm almost positive its the manifold I've been looking for.
Thanks,
Jay
