Edge Insight Questions

Got mine installed this PM. Showing DPF LOAD 95% Soot 2.54

What does that mean? I thought the EPF load was soot. Thanks for any input, thanks a lot for any knowledgable input.

I don't watch the soot % but an active regeneration will begin at 2.66 or above, depending on how it feels.
I think 2.66 gpl is 100% but you'll find that out soon.
Most of the time mine begin at 2.66 or 2.67 depending on conditions but sometimes won't begin until 2.74.

Once it reaches 2.67 and driving temps are normal it will start when you decelerate. As long as your are in the throttle (like climbing a hill) it will not start. As soon as you let up it will start (R lit and ON in the display if you have that on the display). Could vary but I've watched it closely since I had the problem with engine stumble during regen. Haven't had that happen since I replaced failed EGT sensor 2. My guess is that this sensor determines how much fuel is dumped in the left bank when regen starts. The failed sensor seemed to flood the engine. Once I replaced it the problem stopped.

Thanks for the response. So DPF load and soot level are telling me pretty much the same thing. With the load at 97% I took a ride and sure enough as soon as I hit about 35 MPH the R came on. I missed it in the message center which is normal for me. So, I drove to the nearest exit and took a run down the interstate. On the way to the exit I had a red light and the R stayed on right through it. Went down one exit and was down to about 30% so I got off and was gonna do a quick turn around and head back up the interstate but I got caught at another light. This time the regen quit with the edge showing 30% Load.

I'll tell you this is far superior to my 08 during regen. If I hadn't installed the Edge I could not have know it was in regen. And I pay pretty close attention to whatever I'm operating. I'm pretty sure I always knew when the 08 was doing it.

Yep, the acceleration part is something I play with at times when I know it's about to start just for the fun of it.
I see how long I can keep a small amount of throttle input to see how long I can keep it from turning on.
Eventually of course I have to coast and the R immediately turns on.
Obviously the times I do this the numbers are higher than 2.66 before it starts because I caused it.
Sometimes it waits until above 2.70 at proper temps with multiple coasts so those are the times I can't explain.

If I'm running short trips around town where I stop and interrupt it after regen starts I've seen it as high as 2.87. The problem there is that it never seems to burn down lower than 2.30-2.40 afterward and then seems to climb more rapidly to the next regen. Highway trips will take it to around 2.15 and then it takes a while to build up again. Most of this is irrelevant I'm sure but hey, we have to do something. Personally, I like the system and have never had any desire to do any deletes. I get plenty diesel fumes when on my tractor and it sounds much better than some of the trucks I've heard with 5" exhaust. Now a '67 GTO, that's a beautiful sound!

I'm about ten minutes from sending the Edge back. It's all fowled up. Can't get the thing to stay on and can't get the PIDs to stay where I put them. Also can't get it to change pages. I guess I need a new down load which I'll try to get Monday. Arrragh, frustrating.

Watching this...I had thought about something to monitor this new truck as well but have not done a thing.

I think if I did I would go right back to the banks IQ as I had before. I sold it all when I sold my 6.4.

I didn't think about that, I had an edge a while back and it was fantastic. Yeah, I doubled my money on the H&S. When we first heard the rumor about the EPA being on them I said on here that I should buy every one I could find for resale later. As the 6.4s age they will become more and more expensive after everybody is out of warranty. I think they are close to $2000 now.

All I want the edge to do is monitor the DPF and keep me informed about it. I re-read the owners manual last night and it may be operator error. They try to cover about 5 different products that will work on hundreds of vehicles in one 20 or so page manual. It's tough on an old coger, figuring all that out.

By the way, my truck is now at auction on line at iaai.com. It's at Fort Myers. Bid is up to $4200. I spent more than that in engine parts last year. And they have it listed as a gasser. I have thoughts on that but I'll keep them to myself for now.
