My 86 has the passenger seat that tilts forward, then the backrest tilts forward again, so you can get in the back easier. Always worked good but lately takes more pressure and a longer pull on the lever to get that second tilt. The little cable that works it seems to have a lot of slack and also now when you push it back to riding position, it tilts to the farthest rear recline setting instead of returning to the previous recline position. Anyone worked on theirs have any tips for getting at this mechanism and servicing it?
I figured that might be the case. Not hard to pull the seat. Maybe just slice the fabric that covers the seat bottom for access to the mechanism. Something sure isn't right, hopefully it will just need a lube and a cable adjustment. I'd rather get on it now than wait til it breaks completely.
Just 4 bolts to take it out. Might be a bent lever, IIRC there is a wire instead of cable that could be bent at one end too. Lube might help too. I have a seat base on my back porch, if I can get to it I'll look to see if there's anything else that might cause problems, haven't worked on one for a couple years now.
Thanks. No problems with the initial release that lets the whole seat tile forward. It's the wire or cable activated part that works off the same lever but runs up inside the seat to release the seat back for more tilt that seems to be getting harder to work and takes a longer pull than it used to.
