Drive by wire. Some times not always. If you nail it from a stop or very slow rolling speed it will stumble bad. It only has 55,000 miles on it. No codes. Of course this can be dangerous if you are trying to get out of something's way. Any body seen this before. It did this couple of years ago and I did the throttle relearn and that seemed to help for quite awhile. Did the throttle relearn again will have to try it next time I take it out. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
I'd be curious if your fuel pressure is up to spec?
Then again since this seems to be very intermittent, long times between events perhaps EconManor has a point? Something, anything so infrequent shouldn't be indication of anything major.
Add in the subjective terms like "stumbling" which doesn't really help clear things up.
Fuel Injection and Electric Throttle Bodies have to be launched properly or they can fall on their face off the line. It's a hit and miss thing and if it stumbles all you can do is back off the gas and wait for everything to catch up. Half Throttle to launch and start squeezing it down once your rolling and before you hit second gear!
If I or somebody else does something stupid and I need to accelerate rapidly Eg: drop the pedal to the metal. The damn thing had better respond. not cough, miss, Ie: stumble. My cable driven mod motors don't have this problem. They will light the tires up. When the van does this it acts like and old carbed engine when the accelerator pump is bad. The van only has 54,000 miles on it no codes of any sort. couldn't ask for it to run any better down the road.
Not being able to nail a fuel injected car from idle is nonsense. It should not take special skills to drive a newer vehicle and any car mfr that built such a vehicle would be dragged into court. It is a safety issue. The electronics are there to PREVENT this kind of stuff from happening.
I'd maybe run some Techron thru the gas tank and maybe clean the throttle body (with spray throttle body cleaner) just to make sure the injectors are clear and the throttle body is not gunked up. When one of our cars starts running a bit funny I often think it's some gunky gasoline (caused by the ethanol that all gas has these days) and some Techron often takes care of it.
Note also that Techron is available at Costco, 6 bottles (treating 16 gallons each) for $20. It was on sale for $13 last month; this is a LOT cheaper than auto parts stores. It's the only fuel additive I'll use. I put 2 bottles into a full tank in my van maybe a couple times a year.
