Easiest way I've found to deal with it is take her camping. We took the TT to a nice little lake not far from home with the kayaks and bicycles and enjoyed the last few days with the kids. Unfortunately I have to do brakes on the yukon and repair a farm gate now. The yukon pulled the TT great but I will be glad when my truck is on the road for that task

 

The machinist just called me. The motor is done. He still has to do the intake valve seats but I can start on the short block. I will try to get it picked up tomorrow but I don't know how much time I will have for it though cause I just pulled the trailer to a nice little lake. I figured I would get one more trip in before I got the motor back but I guessed wrong

When I rebuild the one I tore down the other night, I plan on painting the block and heads something other than black so it will be easier to spot leaks. Something like Ford blue, Ford gray, or the one I'm going with is Ford red. Just something to think about if you haven't already

Haha. That is true Glenn. I park on gravel so it doesn't matter as much but it is nice to be able to park on someone else's driveway and not have to worry about it.
I pulled out the injector cups late last night. The riff raff tool worked quite well but I could imagine it being a bit of a challenge inside the truck. I'm planning on cleaning up the holes and installing new cups this am

 

I didn't realize the cups were that deep. How does the tool actually grab the cup to pull it out?

 

The idea of it would be like a 3/4" fine thread pipe fitting with a bolt welded to it. The tapered thread wedges it's way into the brass as you thread the bolt in and the nut is used to pull the cup out.

 

I finished the cup replacement this morning. Hopefully they seal up properly. All in all I would say that cleaning out the old retaining compound was probably the hardest part of the job.

I used some wire brushes on a drill to clean the bores

After the wire brush I used compressed air to blow them out

Before installing the new cup I cleaned them with wax and grease remover. Sorry I don't have any pics of the retaining compound on them

It took two tries on the first cup because I don't realize how far to press it in. Shining a light from the bottom of the head helped to get it figured out but the only way I can describe it is tighten till snug and keep going till tight

All in all the kit is very well put together and I would recommend it to anyone. It comes with almost everything you need except the cleaning products

 

If the motor is in the truck, how would you clean the hole out without getting stuff inside the motor?
