I know there is already a post about this, but after 7 pages and not finding the answer I was looking for I decided to make a new post. Ok, so I used to have a 7.3 and when I opened the petcock to drain the water out, the flow of fuel/water would only last so long. When I drain the 6.7 it seems it just keeps pouring out. So dumb question here, how do you change the filter with that much fuel coming out, or is mine just the exception? Thanks ahead of time..
Yep, unscrew the housing 3 turns and it will release a shut off valve that isolates the filter from the tank.
No shutoff valve is released, it just opens the seal on the housing which stops the draw on the tank.
But, yes, three turns of the lower housing using a 1-1/4" six point socket to loosen it initially. And don't forget to unplug the sensor before starting, and plugging it back in after you're done.
There are a number of videos on youtube showing the whole procedure.
I just hand loosen the yellow **** until the fuel runs out and drain a litre to be safe. this ok?????
Never saw water but no even sure what to look for. Was told a glass jar and let sit for a day.

For regular maintenance, you are correct, all you need to do is drain some and stop.
When changing the filters, if you don't turn the lower bowl over three turns the DFCM will continue to siphon the tank as the others mentioned.
Thanks for that. I assumed this was procedure for changing fuel filters only but not regular water drain.
On that note, the fuel filter change looks so easy but with lots I have read regarding warranty, fuel systems, etc. I have let the dealer do all regular maintenance.
Last week had oil change, fuel filters, rotate tires, top up def, and asked about air filter but they did not deem it needed change.
$ 420 bucks CDN and I thought it would be worse!!!!!
only 25000 on my 2012 f350 lariat
love the beast
How often are you guys changing air filters? Sorry for hijack.
No need to drain a liter of fuel to let the water out if there is any in it. Water is heavier than fuel so it is always at the bottom and will drain out first so you don't need to drain much to get the water out. And you can let it go until it turns the "Water In Fuel" light on, then drain it.
As to the air filter, they can go a very long time, change it when the restriction monitor shows a restriction.
Now, if you're **** retentive, then never mind the above and replace the air filter every other oil change and drain the DFCM weekly...
