Lets go back to basics and try and identify what I have here, its an import from 1992 is a IDI 7.3 Diesel, sold to century from a ford factory, century then fitted the roll back before exporting it to Ireland.
Its a 2 wd 2 door chassis cab :-
Is it a F450 or F350 as the only badge on the outside front wing says superduty
Was it built Canada or a US factory
Vin is 2FDLF47MINCA56200 (this number is not recognised by the VIN identifier available at FTE)
The first f450's were just called f super duty, sounds like that's what you have. The first digit of the vin is country of origin, according to my google search, 2 is the code for Canada, 1 would be USA.
The F-Super Duty 1987-97 (the original super duty prior to '99 pickups) was introduced to bridge the gap from the F350 to medium duty trucks. It was a commercial cab & chassis 2WD dually only optioned truck.Known at the time as the "One Ton Plus." It sports a HD frame, the hydroboost brake system w/ 4 wheel disc brakes.Though they are 2WD trucks, they are equipped with 4WD transmissions but, rather than a transfer case, they come with a drive line emergency/parking brake. A HD dana 80 rear axle that came from ford with gear ratio options intended for two purposes; heavy hauling & towing. They came in various wheelbase lengths with up to a 15,000 LB GVWR.It's widely known as the F-450 equivalent with many auto stores listing parts under either name. These trucks are easy to spot with their pickup size cabs, yet unique F-Super Duty fender emblems & 10 lug wheels.
axle code 72 = 4.63
axle code 73 = 5.13
this Dana 80 has an 11,000 lb capacity rating.
why ford chose to name them "f-super duty" rather than f-450 is unknown to me.it doesn't mean the f-450 didn't exist.it just means ford first called them F-super duty.the f550 would be the one missing in action until latter years.
they didn't find any such thing at the local town office for registration.they called the DMV and they told them (wisely imho) to stamp the tag with "f-450" for mine.i told them that before they bothered calling, but of course they had to verify it from the state not me lol.
the fourth digit in the VIN = L - 14,001-16,000 lbs. this is the given load ratings for the F - super duty/f-450
the f350 cab n chassis trucks sport the pickup sterling 10.25 and sadly the pickups vac brake system so it wouldn't get such a high GVWR.
