I'm working on fixing my 4wd so I figure while I've got the truck torn apart I'd like to go a little taller and throw new suspension on. I'm currently running a 6" skyjacker lift kit on my '79 f150 and while I've got no complaints about this kit I'd like it a little bigger.
I've been eyeing 9" lift kits and am trying to decide between Skyjackers kit or Superlifts kit. My dad ran superlift many many years ago and had nothing but good things to say about the quality of their products but that was also 15+ years ago. I've been satisfied with my 6" skyjacker kit but want to know what others were running and opinions as to which is preferred. Both are relatively the same price. $300 difference.
I would imagine that both these kits are about the same. If your happy with your skyjacker, why not stick with them. I'm sure these kits haven't been upgraded in years and both the same technology. Doubt they would update them that much, with these trucks being as old as they are. They are spending their R&D money on the new trucks.
I am running a 6" superlift kit and it does just what its meant to do. My only complaint is that it rides very stiff.
I have been contemplating putting more lift on my 79 as well- but with a different route. I was thinking about keeping the 6" lift springs in the rear and using a dropped shackle hanger. For the front I would use 9" lift coils.
Of course when bumping up the lift one has to consider U-joint angles, drive shaft length, brake lines, and steering components.
With this lift I am going to assume you want to run 37"+ tires. What have you done to your axles to prevent the from grenading?
Im very curious as to what others have to say and what you end up doing.
