my 89 with a 4.9 runs out of fuel and dies sometimes but most times it only acts like it outta gas. This only happens if the outside temp is above say 65 or so and only after it sits at a red light for a min or so. if ya drive down the highway itll run fine all day long also if the temp is below 65 outside then itll run fine all day as well. the previous owner has replaced all tune up and filter components and i have replaced myself a mp, iac, oxygen sensor, fpr. when this happens the truck has no fuel pressure. i thought it might be a fuel pump getting hot so i jumped each off and literally ran each tank dry into another tank. i havent tested the high pressure pump on the frame rail this way but when it acts up i can still hear it trying to pump momentarily as i turn the key. only codes i get are a 33 which is egr not opening as i research it. will this cause the computer to shut down the fuel pumps? im usually pretty good with these fords but this one has me really baffled and annoyed. any help to this new member would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance
update on the truck... i think i have found the problem. i guess it was the low pressure pump in the tank failing when it was warm and then going back in when cool. ive never seen that before but i changed with a new one and for three days now its been working with no issues.
