What's next????

Okay, new stuff.

Now I have an airbag lamp that stays on, gonna have to take it in for this one. Expecting $$$ from my wallet! Getting funny DTC's also:
P0480 Cooling fan 1 ???? seems bogus to me!
B0001 Cannot find a description, but seems to be a BCM Code, may be attached to lamp, but who knows??

Anyone else with goofy codes or ideas??

thnx

Body control module issues perhaps. I think all related.

Don't clear any codes.

If you are over the 36K bumper to bumper I'd think the safety restraint system warranty would be longer.

Thumbs down money pit

yep,

Codes won't clear. According to the SM at MedVed, the P0480 is common and is the fan clutch module. The airbag lamp stays on (except for start cycle). SM says the bags won't go off on their own, but may not work if I wreck. Gosh that is comforting!

Geez, my wallet feels lighter already!

BTW, Airbags are part of restraint systems which are only warranted for 5 yr/50,000 miles. Who has less than 50,000 miles on a 4 year old truck??? Not me!

I had an airbag light on my 2001 and it ended up being the clockspring. I told them so after doing research but they went with a couple other fixes first. On the third trip back they finally changed the clockspring and I never got another airbag light.

@ dannyboy: What is and where is the 'clockspring'?

Intermittent?

This morning, no airbag lamp. Appears to cycle normally during key on.

Went through the carwash, airbag lamp back on. Something wet?? BCM in my opinion is in a horrible place. Totally exposed to the elements. WTF was FMC thinking on this one??????

Plan is to wait for things to dry out (the car wash does a high pressure underbody rinse), then I'm going to cycle the connector on the BCM. This is total BS!!!

It is in the steering wheel under the airbag. Mine was on at all times. They tried replacing the airbag and then the fuse at first.

From Wiki:
In vehicle steering systems a clockspring is a special rotary electrical connector which allows a vehicle's steering wheel to turn while still making an electrical connection between the steering wheel airbag and/or the vehicle's horn and other devices and the vehicle's electrical systems. The clockspring is located between the steering wheel and the steering column.

Good info, probably this is the part I will need. The thing is totally intermittent now, is not connector problem at BCM. I'll put a bug in the ear of the SM in the morning.

Thanks!

If a car wash makes it come on it may be an impact sensor. Don't where Ford puts them but on GM they're in the front bumper area. If they fail they'll put on the airbag light. Maybe just a corroded connector.

Thinking the car wash was just coincidence. It was chilly this am with no lamp, later at the car wash, the outside temp had warmed some, plus the cab of the truck was warm from the heater. I think ford places their sensor in the cab near the fire wall for front impacts. They have other sensors in the C pillars (roll over) and (I believe) in the forward part of the front doors (side impact) in 4 door trucks.

We'll see, having FMC mess with this, don't want to jack with the airbag system, those damn things can kill you!

The image below shows what is marked by a part number that refers to the airbag sensor. It is physically located on the lower radiator support cross-member, behind the front bumper. Perhaps something to check? It joins the loom with the wires for the fog lights.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

My issue is definitely temperature related. Airbag lamp off this am - temp about 38 at 6:30 am. By 8:30, airbag lamp back on. Both outside and cabin temps were up. Cabin up to 73 outside up to 48.

Going to let the dealer have a go at it. We'll see what transpires.
