just want to know how cold your ac gets? mine is an 86 ford 4x4
blue orfice tube and the best mine will get is about 49 deg. if yours gets colder I want to know and what you have done to it?
38 degrees center vent on 91 Aerostar conversion, using same orifice tubes as r12 system, new compressor (old one siezed), evaporator and condensor. Condensor replaced due to high pressures at idle, turned out to be bad fan clutch.
my 83 f100 gets 49 out the center vent. just took the compressor off and dumped all the oil out, cleaned the filter and orifice tube ,and changed the o rings. put 8 oz of ester oil in and evacuated for 15 minutes. then charged with 4 cans of 134 (12 oz. each). compressor made a bad sound for a few minutes after the first startup, but shut up. works good enough for me!
so your gets 49 deg as well huh? your truck and mine have the same compressor mabye thats the best we can get it? I am happy with mine, it would just better if i could get colder!
ya, 49 is a lot better than 89 without ac. have you cleaned the condensor fins? mine had a bunch of bugs in it. i got a lot of em out but nowhere close to all of em. you might also try cleaning the evaporater and the blower motor fan. i had a bunch of dust on the fins of mine. just took it out and cleaned it off. i think the best way to clean the condenser is to take out the radiator and carefully hose it out from the back. be careful cause they bend easily. i might put some window screen in front of my condensor to keep the bugs out.
I cleaned out the blower motor the other day and your right therer were a bunch of leaves and crap. I didnt get any colder but it did seen to blow a bit harder. as far as the condensor its pretty clean its only about 3 years old and dont have a lot stuff on it. I did ad a can of maxi cool the other day and it did seem to to work, last night it went down to 45 deg, and seems to get colder alot faster. I think i will replace the blower motor soon, it works but seems to be a little weak, i mean its 18 years old! I was at work the other day and took a new one out the box, hooked it up to a battery and it seemed a lot stronger! mine does not blow that hard, does yours?
well it works good enough to keep me from using full speed on the ac going down the highway. usually i run the fan less than full speed goin down the highway in illinois heat(90-95, high humidity) once the interior gets cooled down. i think mine puts out enough air. you might try what steve said about the orifice tube. and how much refridgerent charge do you have in?
I installed a '94 5.0 motor in my '85 Turbo Coupe T-Bird. I used all of the 134 setup from the donor Mustang (drier, condensor, compressor, hoses) except the in-dash evaporator. (it still is the original R-12 Thunderbird component) At 100-110 deg (outside Temp) going down the highway I can blow 45 in the high speed position. anything below100 deg outside temp and I can pull 40-43 degrees. It is quite comfortable after about 2-5 minutes.
I tried to go the cheap way out and get one of those cheap 30.00 kits at autozone, but the lowside fitting would not work i guess i would need a right angle fitting for the low side...
I need to go the cheapest way out, but i need it reasonably cold too what do i need to do to get it desent, like vacumn, dumping the oil out, replacing the orfice, (how much colder will that get me alone?)
I also did a conversion on my '83 F250 several years ago. It was a Pep Boys 39.00 conversion.I haven't put the thermometer on it, but it cools comfortably going down the highway. It doesn't get instantly cold, but after 4-8 minutes of drive time it works acceptably. If you would like, I will put the thermometer on it and get you some numbers. Here in Arizona, the outside temp is extreme compared to the rest of the world. If it will cool comfortably here, with the outside temp 100+, it should freeze the 'nards off a brass monkey elsewhere.
well i just found out that we carry that vov, but its called AAOT
automiatic adjusting otfice tube, by factory air. I will be trying that just as soon as come with 22.00+20.00 for freon&oil+20.00 to vacume it. It stated in the catalog that it is for extreme temperatures 105+. it gets pretty hot here in texas! ill let you guys know how it works. ive read good things about it but i have not gotten any responses that it works.
