I know this doesnt seem to be a traditional swap from what I've see/researched so far esp. on this forum but I am swapping an e40d into the truck soon. I got lucky enough to get an stock e40d, flexplate, TC, peddle assembly, crossmember, and shifter for $300 off of a guy who did the opposite swap.
Things I've noticed I still need: auto gauge cluster, wiring/ computer. What else may i be missing?
Does the computer I already run this tranny if I flash it/ find one in a junk yard?
I plan on a TC and vlave body from Racer-X and a good rebuild kit (from where?) before putting this in.
Interesting. You don't need the gauge cluster. You need the indicator needle, linkage, and to remove the black block off bar. The gears indicators are down there.
I believe you'll need an auto pcm. It would appear that an auto pcm will run a manual, but I dont see how a manual pcm could run the auto.
You shouldn't need the whole truck wiring harness, just the transmission harness. Did you get the shift tube that sits on top of the column?
The e40d also uses a different transfer case linkage.

My bro has a built e40d in his OBS and I love it. His drives nice and get better MPG's than me ( I know the ZF5 is geared a little lower). MPG's is one of the bigger reasons for doing this.
I do have the shift tube and flex plate spacer
Looks like I need the needle, linkage, PCM, tranny harness and T-case linkage.

Any one jump to a manual valve body?
FWIW I saw zero mileage change when I swapped from the e40d to the zf5. I'm not trying to dissuade you, just dont set all your hopes on mileage alone .

Don't waist your time with the factory wiring and PCM.
Might? How about definitely. Or you can have yours altered. All in all mine were about 500 bucks to cut/lengthen. This included balancing, new u joints and carrier bearing though.
Not bad, if I'm reading it correctly its saying $565 for the controller and wiring. That would make swapping it easier but would add another chunk
I know that tuner can allow custom shifting options and so on but my question is that if this truck does mostly towing with some occasional day to day then is a stock PCM fine with a new vlave body or is the controller with the valve body that much cooler?
