power steering question

My 1992 f150 4x4 started leaking power steering fluid, so after trying all the easy ways to replace the seal at the pitman arm(input shaft) I had to take the steering box out completely.Than I had to take the shaft out of the steering box via the sector shaft cover to get a screwdriver behind the seal to pop it out, here is my question,,,does the shaft have to go back in a certain way or can i just put it back in as it came out? does it have to line up to other gear a certain way?

When you put it back together make sure you get 4 full turns stop to stop. Then center it, make sure wheels are straight when you put pitman arm bac on and you should be good.

4 turns on the steering shaft, 2 each way from center. might take some playing with to get just right again, but not too bad.

SteelHorse, I just wanted to thank you for your help, I tried the 4 full turns, but was only able to get a little better than 2 complete turns, so I took the steering box back apart and found that I did not line the sector shaft up correctly when i took it apart to put the seal in.I lined it up and than did the 4 turns and everything fell right into place. Thankyou very very much
