E350 trans problem
Hello America,I'm from South Wales UK.I own a winnibago Miniwini RV on a Ford E350 chassis 7.3 diesel V8, auto with electric OD.
I use it to tow a race car (about total weight 4000 lbs)
A problem has devoloped with the auto box.It seems to lose drive some times,then hunt between gears.If you come to a halt the only way it will move of in first again is if you put it in park first.Sometimes you can get drive again if you gently accelerate or drop it to 2nd manually.The fluid is clean no burning and at correct levels.The overdrive light on the end of the gear change blinks on and off all the time,but the od seems to switch in and out ok,
The symptons seemed to start when the speedo failed.Is there a speed sensor coupled to the speedo that gives a signal to the box.Without the speedo is the box 'confused'.Change gear manually makes the box shift but with quite a thud on changing.
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Hello,
It sounds like you need to replace the VSS(vehicle speed sensor). The transmission needs a good signal from the VSS to let it know when to shift. Get the codes and I'll bet it comes up with a VSS signal problem.
