I just recently purchased my first psd. I've have idis in the past and recently swapped a cummins in place of a 6.9 in my old 86 f250. Anyways I ran across this 96 auto cc with high miles but zero and I mean zero rust so I sold my old fummins. I don't think this truck has ever seen salt. The clear coat is pealing and I'm guessing that's because it sat in one spot all winter and never moved. Anyways I don't care bout the clear coat because the truck is so nice for the year. Since I'm new to the psd I've been looking through the forum and got a lot of good info but I'm out of town for work and I'm on my phone so it takes forever to go through everything.
Anyways I know I need either gps or a gpr cuz she don't like to start without being plugged in. It runs like a champ once it starts has tons of power and it has what I would call normal blow by for 310k miles. Ok I'll get to my question... it seems to me that it idles a little rough. It's not shaking the truck to pieces or anything but I can definitely feel it. Is this normal for these or could there be something causing this? Thanks and I'm sure I'll be back asking a lot more questions!
Ask away! LOL Is the motor stock? When was the last oil change? If the injectors are original, I would bet that they need rebuilt. Maybe run some diesel clean thru and see what happens. The IPR on the HPOP might be sticking some. That's just a start, others will be alone. Welcome
It's all stock from what I can tell besides some kind of chip but I haven't dove into it to figure out what. It's still about 2000 from needing the oil changed and the oils good and clean. I'll try running something through it to see if that clears it up any. Does anybody on here run Lucas products in theirs cuz that's really handy and cost effective for me since I have a buddy that runs a Lucas store and he has it all!
Once I had a slight miss so I filled the fuel bowl up with diesel power and ran it. Seemed to clear it out. Most guys stay away from oil additives, these motors use anti-foaming oil. The chip 'might' be dislodged a little, I would try pulling it and see how it idles without the chip.
Ok I'll try that. Thanks! Oh here's a newb question. ..If it has a chip where would it be..Under dash or hood? Or could it have been programmed with one of the plug in type programmers?
I'm not sure on the miles on the oil but the sticker in the window says it's got 2000 miles to go before it's due and the oil is good and clean and not black at all.
