How to decide?

I'm looking for a 2014 F250 with crew cab, suitable for pulling a 28ft trailer from the hitch. There are options of a Gas or Diesel engine and a different ratio transmission.

We haven't purchased the trailer yet so I don't know the weight.

We will only pull the trailer for approx 12 weeks of the year
Any comments on which to choose and why would be appreciated.

Well the diesel starts at about $8k more on the sticker, fuel costs are higher, maintenence and repairs are higher. The diesel faithful will give you their side and gassers will give you theirs, and you will probably be just as undecided. You may even get an F-150 ecobooster chime in as well.

I have a 2014 250 6.2 4.30 and use truck to plow snow and tow dump trailer with a skid steer inside without an issue.

I have a 6.2 with 4.3's because I will be towing heavier than I currently am.
IMO, the 6.2 with 3.73's is best for you now.

I am a full time RVer and my fiver weighs over 14,000 loaded. I had to have a F350 and since we put about 4,000 - 6,000 miles on it a year towing I am probably saving in fuel by having diesel. We get between 11 - 13mpg towing and I don't think a gas engine would come close to that. It you are a part time RVer and won't be pulling a heavy fiver for the life of your new truck then you should probably save some bucks and go with a F250 gas.

Its all about money. Even though the PSD will get much better mileage while towing, it takes A LOT of fuel to make up the extra $8-9K cost. Higher fuel, higher oil changes, DEF. But the PSD is a beast.

I had an Ecoboost F150. Definitely check em out. More cab room, more power than the 6.2 and unbelievable low end torque. Not to mention better mileage when not pulling. The 150 just doesn't handle the weight as well as the super duty(obviously). But definitely worth a hard look.

x2

Try to narrow down how much weight your going to pull (loaded not dry) just to be sure you get enough truck.

You are better off buying the trailer first, then match the truck to the trailer.
