Towing with overdrive on

I am fairly new to towing and took my truck from California to Oregon and back (about 1000 miles each way). I was towing approximately 7500 lbs. through some mountain terrain and wasn't aware that I needed to turn the overdrive off. After returning back to California my transmission died. I took it to the dealer and they said I no longer had a second gear and that the tranny needed to be replaced. My truck is an automatic and only has 15000 miles on it. Was towing with the overdrive on the cause? I also have 35" tires and a 60 HP chip. Could any of these have been the cause? I don't want this to happen again and was wondering if this problem was a faulty transmission or a user induced error. Thanks

Towing with overdrive on

Towing in overdrive isn't necessarily bad. What's bad is when the transmission keeps shifting between gears. I don't think the tires would have been the cause. While towing with a chip isn't a good idea unless you have the exhaust to match it, it wouldn't toast your transmission, it would damage your turbo blower.
