Need to pull engine Question

I hope this isn't a stupid question but I need to know before I buy a engine hoist. Will a standard car engine hoist have a high enough lift to pull a 351 out of a F150? Will I have to remove most of the front end? This is my sons car, I am used to working on my sport cars and this thing is a monster to me.

thanks

Need to pull engine Question

Unless your son's F150 is jacked up like crazy, then it won't be a problem.

Need to pull engine Question

you shouldn't have to take any of the front end apart , and if your really good you won't even have to take the hood off!

Need to pull engine Question

You should be able to remove the grill, radiator and all the sheet metal across the front and pull it straight out. If this is not possible you will need an overhead hoist. I don't know of any "cherry pickers" that have enough lift to get over the front.
sometimes you can take the front wheels off and drop the truck on its axle, that will usually give you the clearancee you need.

Need to pull engine Question

if it's a stock lift F-150, you can just deflate the front tires completely and with the hood off, use a cherry picker to yank it out. That's what I did. Taking the hood off gives ya a lot of head room, that may not be necessary, but if very nice in the head room dept.

Need to pull engine Question

a cherry picker will do fine. I had a 73 highboy with 33's and it pulled out a 390 which is real heavy. you will be fine, take the hood off its just easier but trace an outline of the hinge thats bolted to the hood first . this will help you line it up better when you put it back on.

That is a good idea. I am surprised I didn't think of that. It is defiantly an option I may use if need be when the time comes.

Thanks
