Ok.... This is driving me insane! My dad a while ago when backing up his boat jackknifed it and pinched the wires.. I just replaced the wires.. Typical 4pin flat connection. However there are 4pins but two brown wires...?? From the trailer there are only 4, green, yellow, yellow with a stripe, and green with a stripe.. 86 basstracker. I have all lights working but no running lights. Fuses seem to be good... Bout to say hell with it and never fish or travel at night.
I would get a tester and check that the truck end is working fine.
Grounds will do some weird stuff and do it intermittently.
I hitched my camper up the other day to check the lights, had no turn signals 4 ways, electric brakes or reverse lights, but had running lights and 12 volt charge...
took the truck end 7 way apart and found the ground terminal was dirty. Cleaned it and everything worked...
Four pin trailer wiring is relatively simple. Ground, running lights, left brake, and right brake are the four pins. IIRC the running light pin is right next to the ground, and the first step would be to test the truck connection to see if it's providing power to the trailer.
So with a test light, clip the ground lead onto the ground pin, which should be the only male pin on the back of the truck. Turn on the lights and place the tip of the probe on the one right next to it, you should see constant voltage. If that's correct the problem is with the trailer and you'll have to start tracing the corresponding wires on the trailer.
Common. Those are your running lamps for each side of the trailer.
If you find that the truck isn't providing running lamp power, you will need it IDENTIFY IT in order to get accurate assistance, we are not psychic.
No worries, the others seem to have figured out what I was saying without trying to make me feel like an ***. I'll go to other sites for assistance. Thanks to those who did offer suggestions. Appreciate your time.
Some if us don't post here enough to know all the details u need. I often just peruse, click ads, etc... U know, one of the hundreds who more than likely help this site stay up and running, yet don't post. Appreciate the help again.
