i am dis assembling my motor and its my first.I have some questions if anyone can help.1 i have the heads off harmonic balance and front cover. How do i remove the gears behind te front cover.2 how do i remove the crank?3 how do i remove the cam, lifters and anything else to get it to the point i can take it to a machine shop?
Remove the back plate...the plate that the rear main seal installs in. Put it up on an engine stand. Pull the heads. And before you flip the engine over, remove the lifters...or you'll scatter them across the floor. Rotate, then using a thin paint scraper remove the oil pan....then the oil pick-up assy. Then unbolt-unscrew the connecting rod bolts/screw, slip a piece of plastic tubing over the cr studs and tap the piston out...do the remaining 7. Then remove the front cover....remove the cam.....unbolt the mains and lift the crank out. You can leave the crank gear on.
When I disassemble a motor I use several buckets for the bolts and small parts. I keep them separate in phases to make it easier to find them when reassembling and lessen the chance of finding a spare bolt or part at the end.
