Vent window

My vent window glass slides in and out like a book on a bookshelf. All the parts are in good condition but I think I'm missing whatever holds the glass in place. I didn't realize it was like this and almost lost it going down the road. Is there a channel liner or do you just use ummm...what's that window stuff...errr.....urethane..no....butyl??

Wayne,

It is called Vent glass seat tape. It can be gotten from Mid Fifty or LMC.

I used the proper rubber tape, a messy job and doesn't look that great. If I was doing it again I'd use black silicone I think.

Check with your local auto glass shop. is there any cushion where it's sliding out of? if so, I would just use butyl, but silicone would work. Urethane is too messy. My 2cents worth. Good luck.

I used silicone RTV, grey because it's what I had, worked fine and any excess peels off the glass very easily, I just lightly scored the dry RTV with a razor blade along the metal channel and the excess pulled right off.

Why buy from Mid-Fifty's or a repro parts seller...then pay shipping charges...when the glass tape is available locally?

I have used good ole black friction tape. I did so cause I had a glass guy
do one once, and it sure looked like friction tape he used, and banged the
glass in with a rubber hammer.

I did my passenger side with correct tape. A real PIA. Driver side, I did with gray butyle, much easier, simpler, have to look closely to tell the difference. If you have a show truck, use tape. JMHO.

Sika is a large manufacturer of sealants and adhesives, much like LocTite. Mostly cater to commercial/industrial users. High quality stuff.

If I were going to use the goo, I'd use polyurethane, that's what almost all windshields use nowadays. Sold at Home Depot.

Just go to your local glass shop for the tape . If you ask nice they may explain how to use it but all it takes is a little 3 in 1 oil .

I tell ya what. I live in Cuba Alabama. It's a very small town of about 350 people. The next town over is Meridian Mississippi which is around 50k people in the area. It should be a town of means. I lived in Meridian for 15 or 20 years. I went to college there to start my college life. Also had an architectural design business there the whole time i lived in the town. Meridian is well known in this area for a number of negative things. One is that business is HORRIBLE. Service at most of the businesses is horrible. As a matter of fact just about everything business related in Meridian is the most awful, pitiful excuse for business anywhere. Several times I've needed something like a driveshaft cut or just balanced...not in Meridian. Need some WINDOW TAPE as I do now? There are 2 glass places here and I went to them today. Here's the look I got when I asked for the product we discussed above....

When I was forced to move back here after life threw me a curve I'm sure the shear volume of the type people above caused much of my depression. I was living in Birmingham and loved it. I actually lived in a small place just outside but connected to Bham called Alabaster. Funny how "little" Alabaster's phone book was 3 or 4 times as big as Meridian's pocket size business section. It's an understatement to say that I detest this place. You can name almost any type of product you would normally find in most towns of equal size and its not here and never was or will be. Even the church I go to is a faint shadow of what I'm used to. So much so that I'm starting to drive once a month 130 MILES to a church in Tuscaloosa to go to church so that I feel like I'm actually at a normal church. I miss my church in Bham so much. There isn't a single one here that is anything like all the other churches I've been in in other places. I've traveled a lot. Never seen anything like here. It's awful.
Want a vehicle painted here??? Nope
Want some trim work/upholstery work done...even simple stuff??? Nope
How about a ride to town to get some machine work done..again even something simple?? Not going to happen. I've had to go to the college machine shop and do my own stuff because there are ZERO walk in machine shops here.
I could go on and on..as if I haven't already. Bottom line I've been looking everywhere I can for a job to get away from here. I guess I'm stuck ordering the tape I need and having it shipped here since no one here has ever even heard of it.
O well.....thanks for letting me rant guys.....
