constant white smoke??
2007 6.0, aside from an SCT programmer the only mod is a cat delete.
I have had my fair share of injector issues just like everyone else.. well the last time I had a code for Cyl 1 contribution fault I was due for a service anyway so i went on changed the oil and when I was changing the filters I noticed alot of rust and sludge in the lower filter housing as well as on the pump itself.
Replaced the pump, put the filter in and the truck wouldnt stay running. Did some more checking, found the return pressure spring was broke in half. Went and purchased a blue spring upgrade kit. Installed that, cleared the codes and im tellin you what this 6.0 has never run as good since ive owned it as it did after the fuel pump and blue spring upgrade (stock or tuned). So im going to assume that the issues ive had with injectors this whole time is most likely going to be related to not having enough fuel pressure.
Well a couple days later the truck started smoking real bad, im talkin when im stopped at a red light, im smokin out the entire intersection (white/grey smoke) until i lay into it then its black as it usually does when i get on it. It is smoking no matter if my foot is out of it or not, driving or stopped. And it doesnt matter if I have the truck on stock or performance tune, she smokes just the same. Smoke doesnt smell sweet, its straight diesel. There is also no black or brown spots in the degas bottle and im not loosing any coolant.
Tested the FICM, its putting out 57.5 - 58v with or without the truck running. I have never upgraded the FICM and from the inside looked like, it was completely stock. From what i understand, Ford never put out a 58v FICM but this looks as stock as it can get. I re soldered the contacts for the caps and the resistors anyway just to make sure something wasnt loose, 2 of the resistors pulled loose when I was pulling the goo off but i was able to re-attach those. Put the FICM back together, installed it and fired the truck up. She started just fine but still smokes.
This leaves me with Injector 1 that was throwing a code before. It isnt throwing one now and the truck still runs fine. No lag on take off, takes off like normal, once it builds boost there is no stopping it. Turbo is tight, and I cant think of anything else it could be aside from the injector being stuck open, but I would assume that if an injector was stuck open or closed then the truck would not run right.
Am I wrong to think that and is there anything else I can try myself to avoid dropping it off at the shop to get looked at?
I just had this issue with my 06 where it was constantly blowing white smoke and it ended up being a crack head for me. My oil smelled like fuel when I checked the oil.
Have you checked your oil to see if it smells like fuel?
