. We need a little more info... is that a 400 built in 1970-1971? Or the later smog 400's with iron emissions bosses blocking the exhaust ports, low compression ratio, and retarded cam timing? Early ~9:1 compression ratio, smog engines prolly down in 7's:1
. 4 bbl. intake/carb. and headers on the early engine will give around 300+ HP... same parts on the newer engines along with advancing the cam timing at the timing chain will give about 200-225 HP... plus grinding out the exhaust bosses, maybe 225-250 HP...

. Check your local swap meets for a 650-750 CFM carb... the 600 carb.s often have idle circuits that are too small to get working right on a 400"...
