Wow I didn't have that much trouble putting mine in, did you buy a Helix or some other brand? The only problem I ran into which was partly my fault, but I also blame Helix for poor instructions, was that I tried to tighten the bolts too much and wound up stripping the threads, not from the bolts but the inside of the holes they go in, the throttle bodie and spacer still stay in but I have tape around the gaskets so that air doesn't leak in. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this easily and inexpensivly?
I have had mine off and on, my brother put one on his Chevy, we put one on my sons truck, my dad's truck, my buddies Dodge. and not had anything that was any problem.
Are you sure you had the correct part number??? Sound like not right to me.
It says "Inspect and test throttle linkage for full open and closed travel before driving. Some cruise or kickdown cables may require adjustment. Refer to service manual"
I have an Airraid TBS and once installed the cable did seem to have too much slack in it, even with the supplied brackets to relocate the mount for the cables. I tried everything and the cables are not adjustable. I actually tore up the throtle cable trying to shorten it. Took it to the dealler and told them it broke. Good thing they replaced it "no questions asked." So you whould think the dealler would take up the slack on the cable right? No. However, I have become used to it. The gas pedal has a little more play, but it does not cause any problems. As for performance, it had not hurt anything at all. I don't have any hard numbers, but I would say there is some improvement. I guess once someone has a bad experience with these things they let everyone know about it!! The debate will go on!!!
I just installed the helix power tower on my 04 5.4 and I really noticed a big differance in the power. It was very easy to install and there was no cable ajustment needed. It fit great. I don't know if there will be any mileage gain because It's only been on for a few days. But with the power gain it has already paid for itself.
For less than 100 bucks I don't think you can go wrong.
