Exhaust header opinion

Been wanting to replace my factory manifolds (due to broken studs) with stainless steel headers.

What are your thoughts on these JBA headers? I like the price -- don't want to spend a lot on these.

Amazon.com: JBA 1669S 1-1/2" Shorty Stainless Steel Exhaust Header for Ford Truck Excursion V-10 99-04: Automotive Amazon.com: JBA 1669S 1-1/2" Shorty Stainless Steel Exhaust Header for Ford Truck Excursion V-10 99-04: Automotive

Found an exhaust shop here in SC that will install the headers for $250.

Long tube headers will deliver better performance improvements than shorties. I found my Banks stainless headers for less than $900 from AutoAnything.com during a sale and they knock off another 10% for first time customers. The install isn't too bad either, unless you wind up with broken studs fighting you, Both Sammie and I have photo threads on here from our installs.

$250 installation sounds dirt cheap... When the studs start breaking on the mechanic he is going to wish he never met you and your ex

I did the same system as Tom on my previous EX and have to agree with him on the Banks. The quality of the tubes and hardware is top notch.

Thanks for the inputs.

What about these? I dont want to spend $1000 on Banks headers. Also not looking to gain a lot of performance -- I dont tow or drive the Ex daily. Just want to fix the leak and get rid of those logs. I like the fact that they Y pipe is already included. They do not look like shorties or long tubes. Are they "mediums"? Since these are steel, should I worry about rust? Obviously SC does not use salt.

If your on a budget, then I would listen to Brent... The stock system is not bad, it's just those darn studs. Maybe you can replace with bolts instead. If you want a little gain look into the Y-pipe mod.

Does the exhaust tone changes or cabin noise if these headers and y pipes are installed? My muffer is currently OEM.

Looking to get this done asap since there is a significant amount of exhaust leak on the passenger side.

After my header install it actually is a little bit more quiet at idle, but as you lean on the skinny pedal it does sound a little louder but no where near LOUD. My exhaust is still stock from the new Y pipe back.

I just had the passenger side done (resurface, and new bolts) all 10 bolts snapped.

450.00 later i'm glad I didn't replace. the payback just isn't there....

I can afford to get headers for it but I wouldn't want them. Maybe for a fast car but not for a big heavy truck especially when you consider they only make improvements at high RPMs. I think I can fix any broken studs relatively easily with the manifolds left on.

Any of mine, but they aren't bad yet and maybe never will be but I MIGHT do a write up on it with pictures if I don't get any more unwarranted infractions.

I was stuck in this same position last year about this time.

Every time I looked at a picture of the stock logs and a picture of some other headers I kept talking myself into the new ones.

While I will admit I did not need to go the banks kit, it is just hard to stay away from them after reading the good reviews and seeing the difference in length from the say Gibson shorty headers and the banks system.

You could search around for the threads on were the gibson headers were used and see how they are doing after a few years of use and then decide. Again I just could not justify putting the old stock logs back on.

I ended up paying $500.00 for the extraction of broken bolts and install of the complete banks headers, exhaust kit. Also replaced all the plugs at the same time.

I just ordered a set of these Hedman headers from Summit and I would like to know if the bolts (for the head and Y pipe) that came with it are good enough or do I need to buy Stage 8 fasteners?

I have not gotten to this on mine yet, but I will be buying Stage 8's.

Please raise your hand if you like re-tightening header bolts.....

Please raise your hand if you like having a header leak a few months after you swapped out logs to headers to take care of same.....

Set them and forget them.

I had a chance to buy them for an old chevy I had back in the late eighties, and passed. That one purchase could have saved me days of messing around with leaking gaskets over the years I had that car.
