windsor and romeo

I have 1997 f150 with a 4.6. The motor is blown up. My motor is a windsor. A mechanic told me I cant put a romeo 4.6 in it. I have to put another windsor in it. Any truth to this??

Flex plate is different even if you have a complete replacement engine with all the tin. I feel the Windsor is better.
