So I'm on Crutchfield and for some reason it says that only certain 6x8's and 5x7's fit in the truck, and some will fit up front that won't fit in the back, and vice-versa. Can someone please help me with this?
Also you can select between front door, kick panel, mid panel, and rear door, There is only 3 different places right?
I'm pretty confused and cant figure out what to buy. Can i just get any 5x7's and have them fit in all locations?
I'd like to buy some 5 1/4's and just get adapters, can i buy 3 pairs and install them in all 3 rows?
All help would be great.
Thanks!
In the front door locations of our trucks there is a bit of depth limitation. Stick with a depth that will work. 5x7 will fit just about all locations within reason. The 5-1/4 will fit too with the proper baffle.
Again, the rears should be able to handle any depth...fronts are a bit shallow.
Our trucks hold six speakers(six separate speaker locations) thus a need for three pairs if you want to replace them all...I did and I love it!
When it comes to picking speakers, it's really a question of who's listening and to what are they listening? That's one of the main focuses. Then its' all about achieving that sound you want. So what is your sound goal? What is a win for you?
Hello. I just replaced my speakers back in dec. i went with Pioneer 5x7/6x8's. They fit with no issues. The fronts are the only ones with a worry about depth not circumfrence. Standard replacement speakers are a good fit, if the replacement has a large magnet it may not fit. I haven't installed the rear speakers yet, but i would imagine there should be enough room!
Well I have a very wide variety of music me and my friends listen to, it's usually rock and country, sometimes rap/bass just to show off. Lol
But I was looking at the pioneer 5 1/4s because I want good loud and clean treble and mid's without cracking. I have 2 10s, so the doors don't need to put out any lows. I've had pioneers before and was happy for the price. I can get all 6 for $120 which I would be perfectly fine with spending.
So, I will bring this thread back from the dead. I am also looking to upgrade my speakers only, not the head unit. So, what speakers have other installed and in which location?
1 Excursion camper what model pioneers did you go with?
I went with TS-A6885R. I had them in our old Explorer and they sounded great. but in the X they don`t sound as good. I think it may be the large environment inside the X. that is a lot of area to fill with music. I still have to install the rear speakers which will be powered by an amp. and I still need to install a subwoofer. that may be part of the problem.

That is why I asked, what may sound good in one vehicle may not apply to an X. I do not plan on adding an amp nor changing the head unit.

Can't directly answer your question, but can recommend Infinity Reference shallow mount 6x8 OEM replacement (5x7) speakers. I have upgraded speakers in two Excursions in the past year. First EX, I replaced all six OEM speakers with Infinity Reference 8602 cfx (
) are designed to be efficient with both factory and aftermarket amps per the manufacturer. Very nice that you can turn off or on the tweeter with a pen through the factory grill if you want more bass in the rear for example. They sounded great with factory radio, but to be obscene and to my high school senior's delight, we put in a high end JL 700 watt amp and they really were unbelievable. In second EX just installed four of the same speakers in the rear and the Infinity Reference Component speakers in the front with tweeters in the A Pillar, again sounds great, but the head unit is not factory as this EX had a pioneer 2 Din with Navigation, but no amp. Plan on putting in a JL 1000 Watt 6 channel amp and Subwoofers in before my son comes home from College for the Holidays. Basically, put the tweeters in the A Pillar this time because I am going to make this EX over the top and I think the high's sound better bouncing off the windshield, but truthfully probably a waste of money as the 8602 with the integrated tweeters make the high's really come thru.
Mine went bad in the rear (I think the PO had kids that poked the cones with sticks or something) and all I could really afford at the time was to super mega Wal-Mart specials. They are cheap, and I ended up doing all 4 doors after seeing how bad the rears were. The best part about going with such low end speakers is when you're going down the road and can't hear the music you can turn the volume all the way up and laugh about the fact that you still can't hear it (This only works on certain roads).
Speaking from my experience as someone who has built sound systems for 4 of my vehicles, I have a mancrush on Infinity Kappa speakers if you're building a system that has subwoofers. The mids are crisp, the highs are sharp and precise with no discernible distortion, and there is some (not too much) punch down low for the full-range drivers. Subs help these speakers out greatly, as they don't seem to push too hard for the low range on rap/hip-hop. Then again, not a lot of full-range speakers provide enough to make rap sound good.

But what if I am not adding a SUB and not adding an amp? How do the Kappas compare to the Infinity Reference 8602 cfx that greg807 recommends?
I would go reference without the sub. They seem to have a fuller sound. They sacrifice a little crispness and sharpness with the highs and mids, but give a bit more punch down low.
My advice, bring a favorite collection of CDs to some place like Car Toys (not sure if they have stores in your region) or any place that has sound booths, and have them set up a comparable deck and test speakers. Most of those places have a pushbutton system that will enable you (or the salesman) to select a deck and speakers at random, so you can try whatever configuration you want to hear, and whatever fits your pricepoint. That way, you can listen to your music in a confined space (like your truck) and get the setup as close to what you want in your truck before you buy.
Funny, Crutchfield does not list them for the front doors. Any problems installing them in he front doors?
Sorry for the late reply, i have been off of the grid for the past few days. I called and confirmed with my installer that I have the same speakers in all 6 positions and that yes they fit in the front door without any issue. Somewhere I read in the past that they have a low profile magnet, but can't seem to find it now.
