Some people like myself wish they could have a 5.4 for an engine...for the work van. We have a 2006 E250 with a 4.6 V8 at 182K miles. When we tow the trailer or run heavy orders, it is slow. I would love to have 5.4 but the bosses would complain "it costs too much for fuel!" IIRC, the boss the van because it as cheap and they needed it ASAP. I think it will be traded in when the 2015 Transit vans come out for sale.

I must say my friends 03 6.0 dump was fast as hell. Something about that truck loaded or empty was an animal. His 06 pick-up still has plenty but would get its *** kicked by that dump truck

I love my 5.4l except for towing...granted now with the lift and tires it just hates having a hitch but anyway. When I towed my 95 home it was a 20 mile stretch on route 3 going form NH to Mass and (no lift or tires then) boy did she fight me to get up to speed. 45-50 was pushing it like 4k rpm average and it felt like I needed another gear or two. Although downhill was nice I got lots of momentum to get up the next hill lol. I think I used a little more than a quarter tank and that's only one way, picking it up and getting home which was a total of 30 miles(ish).
Same with our landscaping trailer, anything over 50 is pushing it. Normally it wouldn't bother me but anyone from Mass knows that a posted speed limit of 55 means 70 in the slow lane lol.

I agree my expedition has the 3v and the difference between the 2v and 3v is amazing I love driving the expedition around. One thing I still can't get use to is the drive by wire though I still like the cable system because its like you move your foot and it reacts instantly, I guess I just like how much it makes you feel in control. I know tuning can fix the lag though in the 3v engines.

now i don't think my 5.4/3.73 combo was ever that bad i couldn't keep speed on the highway. Ive towed my 16ft trailer with six sport ATV plus two dirtbikes and all the gear/tools/gas etc in my bed and i did 65-70mph with no problem. The 4.30 gears helped me get moving from a stop and helped with holding speed and not having to rev the motor to 5k. Two summer's ago i went and picked up a 1975 reg cab K30 with 8" lift and 37" boggers for my cousin, so take truck lift, tires, 454 big block and trailer it was a least 6k in weight coming from northeast Pa with all them hills and passes i did 60-65mph the entire way. The little 5.4 actually impressed me that day
