I have a 93 ford explorer xlt 4x4.
It has an irregular idle issue. Some days it runs like a champ. Other days when you put your foot on the gas it feels like there is no power whatsoever, it idles rough as well.
Things that have been changed already :
MAF
ICM
Alternator
Ac Compressor
New Fuel filter and Fuel Pump
Throttle Body Positioning Sensor
Spark Plugs and Wires.
Checked Cat Pressure at exhaust shop and was told CAT isnt plugged
Not sure what to do next or what to check, Any suggestions or answers. Thank you.
It sounds like you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere or a misfire. If you have access to a smoke machine that would probably be the quickest way to find the leak. However, you'd need to do the test on one of those days where it's not running well.
Have you been able to correlate the days it runs poorly with weather? If the issue seems to only be on damp or wet days, then it sounds more like an electrical issue such as distributor (I'm not sure if the '93 still had a distributor or not) or coil wire. If the issue only happens when the engine is hot, then I'd be leaning toward an ignition module, camshaft position sensor, or intake manifold gasket leak.
I have the same problem on my 92'. Seems like colder days. I replaced coil, battery, fuel, and air filters. Feels stronger when it's running good. but can barley get her to roll away from a stoplight some days.
