What are the pro's on here thought's on it? I've done a little google research on it and as expected found some saying yeah no problem, just let it off gas good first, others saying no freakin way it will peel off in sheets. I've got a gallon of clear urethane freebie and some free lacquer color. I don't mind spending some coin on urethane base coat if I need to but of coarse free is always good too. This isn't a show quality paint job but I would like it to last a few years.
Attempt at your own risk. Lacquer paint only dries it never cures. Once it is dry that means all the solvents have evaporated. Yet you can still heat it up for like 30 seconds and then get paint on your fingers when you touch it. You can rub it off with a rag dipped in lacquer thinner.
A catalyzed paint does cure and the chemicals cross link to form a strong bond. Once that happens you can't wipe it off or reflow the paint. To put a catalyzed paint, with it's strong hardeners and reducers, over a lacquer base could be asking for trouble when it comes to a strong bond between layers and durability over some months.
