I'm up a creek without a paddle guys. Trying to rebuild a 7.3 that I have. I don't know the year of the engine but I'm hung up on a front cover.
It has the oil pickup tube on the drivers side.
So here is the problem, the only covers I can find are superduty covers with the oil pickup tube on the passenger side. Will these work? If they will, what needs to be changed? Oil pickup tube no doubt, what about the oil pan? water pump? oil pump? Please give me any info that you guys have. The local Ford dealer isn't much help. I need to get this thing going asap.
THANKS!
Ford never is. They pointed me to a wiring diagram that could be found at the local library.
Try to find the casting number on the block, might be on the original heads I think. I've never looked for it though, I can't tell you where to find it though. Check for a meta tag too. It will start with a letter and number for the first two digits. This is what I found for Ford..
f = 199* 0-9 so F3 = 1993 and so on.
This would give you a better idea of what year parts you need to look for!
It is a bone stock engine that I got from a guy, came with a cracked front cover. Its a 94.5-95 engine from what I have read from the lpop pickup tube being on the drivers side. Ford said they can get me a front cover for the tune of around $600. I can find superduty front covers cheaper, I just need to know if they will work and if so, if I need to change anything. I will take a look at riff raff. The block number is missing the last 4 digits due to the block flaking off rust.
I see they have a front cover for 94.5/95, a 96, and 97/03. I know its not a 97/03 front cover due to the oil pickup. With the numbers missing off the block, how can I tell for sure if I have a 94.5/95 engine or a 96?
