I've got an oil pan drain hole thats stripped out beyond repair.Tried to screw in a double oversized plug and the thread insert inside cracked.I'm thinking about trying to weld on a nut or fitting on the outside of the pan that I can screw another plug into.Does anyone make a weld in type drain bung?I know I've senn them for 02 sensors.Replacing the pan is a major pita.
Billy , I know its a pain to replace the pan , But trying to rig up a shortcut on an oil pan drain nut is asking for trouble . If it lets go your engine wont be far behind .
I had the same problem. If you haven't fixed it yet, get an oversized drain plug from any auto parts store and use a metal washer and a rubber washer (with a tight fit on the bolt) and don't over tighten but tight enough to seal the plug. And it is reusable but change the rubber washer when changing the oil.
i wouldn't try welding to an oil pan on a vehicle even if the oil is drained. there's still oil in there. it will catch on fire from the heat. i've had oil catch fire on a hot exhaust manifold before. heat from welding would set it on fire to. i know its a PITA to remove the oil pan, but if you replace it with a new oil pan you'll never have to do it again. at least not to that truck anyway.
