Pulling codes??

Searched around, but can't fit anything on it. Ok, can you do it the old fashion way on a '99 F450(paper clip)? Or need to go to Azone and let them do it?

Got a stalling issue that has arisen. Always restarts, but it did set the SES light so I have something to work with now. Just near 300K and nothing ever done to it besides a clutch.

I don't think the scanners autozone has will pull codes from a 7.3. Before I had AE I would use the local AAMCO. They always refused payment and where happy to do it.

Yeah they will..... Theres codes that it won't read like ae but for what he needs it for a quick trip to the parts store should do the trick. If you need to investigate more then that's where ae comes into play

Take it to an auto parts store, many will do it for you for free. O'Reiley's will even print out some neat-o stuff for you, too.

depends on the truck and the scanner they use. it is about as reliable as those cheap BT scanners.

it won't hurt to check with them, but don't expect much. maybe someone with AE is in your area.

if you want a cheap, reliable code reader- try to find a VIN locked superchips 1705.

I have had great luck with both my "cheap" BT scanner, and my $50 code reader

Thanks guys, kinda figured I have to go that route. It set a code, so it should not be hard to figure out, right? LOL! First few times it stalled, no light so I was like "oh well". I put a new fuel and air filter in it just cause it was due anyway. I had just changed the oil a week ago and had to pick the other stuff up. Apparently that didn't work.

I'll let you know what I find out if I get time to run it over today.

that is good. your 2002 plays nicer.

have 2 BT adapters as well. neither one does well on old green, late 99. they do work well on every gasser.

never spent the money for AE, but the $5 spent on a VIN locked superchips has gone a long way.

My first thought too. You may want to look at Tuglys torque pork thread also.

Well, went to Azone to get it scanned. Hmmm, scanner says "no power". They say that means the lighter fuse is blow. Check and yup. I put in a new fuse and POP...blown again. Uh oh, this is not good. Did not know there was any electrical issues. The only bad thing is with the idiots that drive this truck they tend to spill coffee/pop down the dash and I think it might have the lighter shorted out. I went to pull it and got involved with other issues at work and never got to finish it. Hope to check into it on Monday and see if I can find the short so I can get it scanned.

Kinda wondered if it might be CPS, as I'm pretty sure it has never been touched since new. We'll see.

Unplug your fuel bowl heater then replace the fuse and try it.

Well, got a few minutes to play with it. Got the lighter unplugged and check it for short. Nothing. Installed new fuse without lighter and didn't blow. Plugged in lighter and no blow. I'm good for now? I was curious as to what was all on that circuit that needed a 20amp fuse. I'll check into that just in case.

It's raining, so maybe tomorrow I'll run it over and have it scanned.

Update:

Took it to Azone. No help.
Took it across the street to a fellow I know. He could not help, but sent me to a diesel shop a few miles away.

Stopped in, fellow scanned it for me, needs CPS and wiring harness checked under valve cover. Wiggling the wires caused rough running. They are looking into it and letting me know it is only wiring or possible injector issues too. Definitely has low rpm miss. Was also getting hard to start when cold, so I know it had glow plug issues(or wiring).

Come to find out his helper is son of a guy I raced with for years. I think they will take care of me.
