What would you recommend for front disk brakes? Motocraft for the pads? Or would any old pads from AutoZone do the trick? Just a question. I know Motocraft pads are amazingly expensive, but I don't know if they are really that much better.
I use (and have used for a while) Performance Friction pads.....they are a carbon/metallic pad and have a lifetime warranty. You can get them from VatoZone.
I just went through the same decision. Finished the installation 2 hours ago!
I got Hawk Performance HP SuperDuty from Tire Rack. $74 / axle set. I had read that these actually shorten stopping distances and are very fade resistant. Material is "a unique blend of organic, carbon fiber, and ceramic materials".
I think that nowadays you probably want to get something with ceramic, but they are more expensive.
By the way, I don't know if yours are the same, but mine (2001) are two piston Bosch units and are VERY easy to do!
Oh......and one thing you dont want in a brake pad if you get into much mud is slots or holes for heat release.....those things just attract mud and small pebbles.....which make for some interesting sounds when braking.
As for any old pads from Autozone, I've installed a few really cheap sets of pads and it's not worth it. They can be noisy, dusty and dont have much stopping power.
And you might want to check the price on Motorcraft pads. They are a lot cheaper than they used to be. At least where I work they are.
