As nearly all antennas screw on, putting a short one on your particular truck isn't going to foolproof it...if in a parking lot they can unscrew an antenna from two or three cars down and do this again. I'm assuming they stole something from inside the truck? If so, was it visible to someone looking through the window? Did it have an alarm to act as a deterrent? (You can see where I'm going with this)
I've never switched since those are typically stiff antennas...I've seen delinquents push those over and bend the fenders of cars since they don't flex.
That being said...eBay has a lot of offerings that use the OEM base. Can't speak to how well they work on analog radios though.
When my factory antenna got bent out of shape (trees), I just hit up my local part store for a new antenna. They had several types and styles. I went with a shorted rubber style, as I did not want to worry about bending another antenna, however, they had all sorts of lengths and colors available. I would recommend checking out your local store, before jumping to ebay or amazon.
I bought a black 10" wire from autozone when I first bought the Excursion, but it was too skinny for such a big vehicle, just didn't look right, so I put it on the wife's Escape. If I remember right it was 12 bucks. I've been eyeballing those 3" ones. I listen mostly to Sirius and mp3s anyway...
Mine is like this. I was tired of the antenna hitting the garage door.
