Hey!
I have a '79 F-150 XLt, long bed regular cab. It currently has it's original, unrebuilt, 302 2bbl, C4 trans and 2.75 non-posi 9 inch axle. The engine has 143,000 miles and leaks at the rear main seal in addition to burning oil. It's time for a replacement. I really would like to upgrade to a '87-92 302 HO engine from a mustang. I also have a chance at a short block that ford motorsports makes for the explorer, brand new, very cheap. I was wondering if the motormounts off these engines are in the same place as mine, and also, what other years of 302s will and will not fit due to motormount issues or some other reason.
Thank you in advance.
Nick
is it just me or isnt the frame mounts the same for the motor? and if not i think it would work to take the motor mounts off of your old 302 and put them on the new motor. well thats just my two cents.
Too much of a hassle to up-grade to an H.O. engine. Unless you can get ALL the electronics to go with it. E.F.I., Ignition, Fuel and assorted controls for the trans.
Get the measurements from your block- From mount to mount, then from front of block to mount. Then check the engine to bellhousing and trans bolt pattern. They should be the same, but I would check anyways.
I would lean towards the short block and build from there. Purchase a 2003 FORD Performance catalog for 5-6 bucks and have fun!! Good luck....
