I've got a 78 f150 with a 4spd .
I was wondering how many had this option it came with a 300i6 looking
to take the 302 swap out for a 351 what would change with the clutch and pressure if anything?
Is your truck 2wd or 4x4 ? A 4spd 435 was the most common trans behind a 300 6.In 2wd trucks with 300 6 a 3spd 3 on the tree was most common .if your putting a 351w in all 302 parts should work
Just so you know no 73-79 1/2 ton 4x4's came with a 302. Only the 2wd's had the 302. Also none of these trucks came with a 351w. 77-79 came with the 351m and 400's. Which externally look the same. To swap a 351m or 400 for the I6 you will need different motor mounts and towers, wire harness and bell housing. Also not sure what size clutch the 300 used, but the 351/400 used an 11" clutch. However with that said if I were doing this swap I would automatically replace the clutch with a new clutch kit.
Although I'm not much of a fan the I6, I personally wouldn't swap the two. The 300 is a great engine. And like anything else if you build it right it will make really good power and phenomenal torque. So to me there is no reason to do a swap in either direction. Oh yeah I should mention that the exhaust would need to be changed as well.
Oh ok that explains that motor mount towers then. That engine can't possibly sit right in there. Since Ford never put the 302 in the 70's 4x4's. And the eighties trucks motor mount towers won't work. Can we see some pics.?
