cab lights on a switch?

I got a set of pacer cab lights for my 99 350. The lights come with a switch so you can turn them on and off independently. How are cab lights set up from Ford? Do they have their own switch or just come on like running lights?

They are tied into the running lights. Anytime my tail and mirror lights etc are on the cab lights are on. Personally it would annoy me to have to turn them on manually.

You're right about the factory lights, of course. And most of the time I'd agree with you about it being too much bother if I needed to flip a switch to turn them on and off, but I can imagine occasions when it might be interesting to put a SPDT/center-off switch into the circuit with one position for stock operation, one position to force them on, and the center off providing a true off position.

If I was going to have them on a switch, like the kit M992wd installed, I would certainly go the small extra effort to wire them as I just described.

Good point, I guess that would work well.
