Hey guys, I want to check my sanity. It seems I came down with "my truck is not big enough" syndrome. Okay. I already got most of my 8" skyjacker lift, and I was thinking hey, since the bed and rad support are coming off, I might aswell get a body lift aswell! Just a 2" I said to myself. So yup, that means 10" of lift.
I want your complete honest opinion on this even if it harsh. The truck is 2wd as many of you know. 5.0 with 4.56's LS 8.8 and a 4r70w. The truck will never see mud, dirt or snow once its finished, only dry or wet pavement. Im thinking 37's are on order aswell.
Your nuts! If it was 4wd and a mud bogger then hell yea!! But on a 2wd pavement pounder????
Go for a leveling kit and 31s.
It already has a 6 inch! Why would I go less?!
And erghh I dont want the "omg its 2wd whats the point" because I am interested in looks, If I wanted to go offroading I would have just bought a jeep not a long bed fullsize truck.
Here is the truck in question with the 6 inch and i beams for the non-believers.

Is your wohoo dilly really that small? You're building a jacked up 2wd mall queen.. what's the point. But then I'm all about performance so if I built a 2wd truck like that it would be full on pre-runner with 24" of suspension travel so you could drive off a loading ramp and not feel it.
My 71 2wd is lifted just a hair in the back from adding 2leafs, and it sits on 31s very nicely. I would like to lift the front end to level it out, but it would cost too much money and I really don't need to do it. It had a good amount of ground clearance already.
I don't think lifting a 2wd is stupid, just going to a stupid height is stupid. Even on big 4x4 super dutys anything more than 6" and 37s is too much IMO. It takes away from the functionality.
I really like the look of the first two pictures, but that big black one is ridiculous! I wouldn't drive something that tall. Unless it was a full on alcohol monster truck.
I just personally always felt that lifted trucks should go offroad I personally can't stand pavement princesses. This is why I feel a 2wd truck should have a long travel suspension as it would do great. I agree with garthneddy do a 4x4 swap maybe even do a SAS then you jack it up as high as you want and it will look better and perform better.
I agree with 351clevland that the bottom pic is way to high what is he (not OP the guy with the truck in bottom pic) trying to do stop the salt from getting on his truck?? I don't think that is going to help to tell you the truth.
Trav
While I do think the bottom pic is much to large for a 2wd, at least it has purpose. I'd be willing to be the owner didn't drop the coin on fabbed arms and resi shocks to have it spend it's life on the street.

There is no point, your seeing exactly what im seeing and what most other people in this thread are: A 2wd lifted ridiculously has no point. Im trying to justify where I want to end up with and what is do-able. A SAS or just a TTB is simply out of the equation; not a bone in me cares to have another tire spinning. But If we are comparing our gentlemans sausages Id suggest I would have the smallest of them all! right?
On another note, thanks for the realistic replies guys. I regret stating "harsh" replies as I dont take constructive criticism well but it keeps me in check
I myself wouldn't want a lifted truck. 2wd or 4wd. The factory ride height is just right if you ask me. Without running boards it's a pain in the rear to clean the exterior windshield. I prefer to see while I drive. Also you would need a ladder to get in and out or to wash the darn thing. Lets not forget adding oil and checking fluids would be a chore to do. Not sure how tall you are but I'm 6 foot and can get in and out of my stock trucks just right. Also how tall is your garage? It sounds like you plan on keeping it nice so having it in a building would be ideal when not in use.
