I have a radio for a '48 ford pickup model (Ford 8MF881). I need the schematics to figure out which capacitors are which so I can replace them.
Anyone have them? I know "radiomuseum.com" has them, but I have to pay a registration fee to see them. I would be happy to do that, but I want to see if I have the brains to fix the one I have before I go out trying to fix em all
In my experience, you'll need to replace or re-stuff all waxed paper caps, all electrolytics, any "bumble bees" or "black beauties" (though these types are newer than '48), and verify all carbon resistor values - replacing any resistors that are out of tolerance. It is decidedly a "labor of love."
Ceramic and Mylar cap's should be fine. As well, these tend to be frequency-determining devices and, if any are replaced, an alignment of the radio is in order. I align, or at least peak, any radio that crosses my bench.
Tube radios, even auto radios, can give a nasty bite if you're not careful.
