Is anybody using "Hedman Headers" #20045 ,for the 5.0 , 302 in the 73 /79 , 2-WD chassis ? If so , how was the fit around the starter , oil filter ,steering gear , ect. ? Are they built good with a 3/8" flange ? I have a 73 with the 302 / AOD trany and in need of headers. The ones I am looking at are sold by "Bronco Graveyard .com" . Thanks JIM
I'm running them on a '77 with a 400 2wd and the fit is pretty good. I always suggest getting them uncoated and fitting them before coating. I've had to ruin ceramic headers before to get them to fit.
I heated the tubes on mine a little and used a ratchet strap to pull them away from the tranny about 1/2". The shift linkage was rubbing on the driver's side and I couldn't get to the tranny cooler lines on the passenger's side.
Mine are part # 89260 IIRC
Hedman ELITE headers have the 3/8 flange and 16 gauge tubes, mine are 1/4" flange and 18 gauge
I ran them on my 79 that I no longer have and all was great with them except some interference with the lower steering shaft, a little indent in the primary and it was all good.
they likely wont clear the starter unless it specifically says it fits an AOD.
i tried it in a crown vic once ... not even close.
best bet would be shorties.....
__Thanks, the AOD starter mount was my biggest concern . Do you know the part number for the shorties, i had to go that way on a chevy street rod once. I never liked them as well as the longer tube , but what ever works is the way i will go.__
can't speak to fitment on shorties, as i've never used them, but i would think this is your best bet. you can probably tell by pictures if it is going to be close or not
