My truck only has 120 miles on it so I won't be needing a oil change for sometime yet,I am thinking about using moble 1 at the first change,I will be only putting on about 5000-6000 miles a year,and I do tow occasionly.I am thinking I will only need one change a year.
That is why I am thinking about going with the synthetic for the little bit of added protection.
What is your opinion?

 

My first change was @ 3000mi. free from the dealer.
I'll be switching to Mobile 1 5/20 for all the rest.

 

Using Mobil 1 here. I check it frequently and the dipstick comes back clean (and full) every time. Can't say the same for my other vehicles (forced induction though). 28,000 miles here (switched to Mobil 1 at first oil change). I will say that on really cold days, I do hear some tapping or valvetrain clatter for the first few seconds while the oil pressure builds up. I don't think this is the Mobil 1's fault.

 

I am not a big fan over over priced oils. I have always stayed with what FORD recommends. Hasn't let me down yet. Motorcraft oil/filter. Why waste money when it will not do anything more than what OEM does. This is what they test there engines with. If they felt the need for Full Syn oils they would be recommending it. My wifes Subaru recommends 0W-20 full syn so that's what I put in..Personal preference I guess...I am going with what the manual recommends on my SD.

 

I wouldn't mind paying more for oil if you could extend the change intervals to match. You have to follow the recommended intervals at least under warranty to keep it valid. Anyway, there are people getting well over 200k miles on an engine with dino oil.

 

Hard to beat the MC semi-syn. It has good reviews at Bob's the oil guy and I just picked up 7 qts and a motorcraft filter for $33.45. I change my oil every 6 months, which is 5000 miles for me. Just to easy to change and also a good time to look around under the truck.

 

As was mentioned, full synthetics don't change the interval between changes. You still need to stick to your schedule, which for me is every 5K. The advantage of synthetics is that they don't break down as fast in high heat situations. If your towing heavy, doing a lot of stop and go, or drive in a high temp climate, it may be worth it. I used it the whole time I owned my '03 f150. For my new SD though I'm going to stick with the Motorcraft oil and filters. IMHO, if you do oil changes on schedule the Ford recommended oil will serve you well.

 

Exactly, I still change my oil every 3k or so..by then it is black,,i cant get myself to change every 5k..My EB was a 10k interval,,heck no..I guess it is what I have been doing for 40yrs..I am sure it is not needed but if the oil wasn't so black after 3k I would stretch it,, but its not so out it goes..

 

I just finished changing mine 15 minutes ago! Mobile 1 and a WIX filter!

 

I use Mobil 1(EP),(extended performance). It's supposed to be better than plain old Mobil 1. I use a Motorcraft 820-s oem oil filter.
Get em both from Walmart.
I use my truck commercially and is how I earn a living, so I need the motor to last as long as possible. I have a friend who has a Chevy 1 ton flatbed similar to mine and he uses Mobil 1 also. He has 450,000 miles on it and it runs fine.
Yes it cost a little more than dino oil but I NEED it in my application.
I don't need premature engine failure like on my previous truck(2008 6.4 PSD). That motor sucked.
I think this oil is only needed if you tow heavy or otherwise load your truck and work it hard and drive lots of miles like I do. Otherwise I think you would do fine using reg oil.
Only time will tell how many miles I can milk the 6.2 for.

 

I use Mobil 1 for the truck. I started using it in my Fusion (Ford calls for 5W-20 in that car also) and it's easier to stock the same oil for both vehicles. I get it from Costco two cases at a time; 5 quarts for the Fusion and 7 for the truck.

I own a 2013 f-250 with 32,500 and have been using Mobil 1 since first oil change I faithfully change oil at 5,000 mile increments although they do say u can go 7,500 miles I won't push it I also run a plumbing business and put a lot of miles on it , I picked it up 3/27/13 and drive a lot lol also use napa gold oil filter which was recommended by my mechanic.

 

I have used Motorcraft oil and filter since day one. Its a good oil and filter. I get them both at Walmart.

 

Mobile 1 is excellent choice. I have used this product on several vehicles in past , including my outboard, with very good results. I now use Amsoil 100% synthetic signature series with their 25G mile capability filter. I change out every 6 mths avg 7500 miles. I also throw in P.I.P. Amsoil fuel treatment when doing oil changes. Truck runs great. I realize this may be an overkill but I always believe excellent lubrication is the key to a long life. By the way, after 6 mths the oil always looks extraordinarily clean.

 

Just changed my oil today. This was my second change as the first was the free one from the dealer. Dealer had used Syn-Blend. I put in Mobil 1 with a Mobil 1 filter. Got a great deal at Advance Auto. $35 for 7 qts and a Mobil filter.

I fired it up after the change and it seemed quieter. I also did this with my old chevy. It did the same thing.
