I have heard rumors that years ago on the assembly line there was a tradition of placing a coin the year of the vehicle being built somewhere in the vehicle on the line. While I was disassembling mine I found a 1964 nickel inside the heater box under the heater core. I realize it could have fallen through the defroster vent and into the box but how could it get to the core considering how the box is built. And for the nickel to be a 1964 in a 1964 truck just seems to coincidental to me. Was the coin thing true?
I haven't heard of this being done but then again I wasn't on the assembly line either. I've heard of stories like this with placing build sheets in odd places and I'd imagine after so long working on the line some workers started passing time by doing odd stuff who knows. That is weird though the coin matching your years truck.
Never heard of an assembly line actually making the parts they install. The heater unit, I would think, be made/put together in a different department. As would most parts on the assembly line. Not sure if that heating unit was used in different yrs.
Nice story though.
